Music Review: An Unexpected Pleasure...

I had very low expectations for this record, considering the creative and financial strife that it represents in CD's history... But, despite (and perhaps because of)these stresses, this record resounds inside you like few I've ever heard. This pressing has most of the content of 'Past, Present and Future' leaving off the two versions of 'Lacrima Cristi' (english and italian language respectively) which are fabulously rare but a bit disappointing, the italian version is particularly weak, omitting Gitane's backing vocal entirely (which did much to carry a thin song). The mix of 'The Absolute' also differs, with the mix incuded here being far richer in bass frequencies than the italian mix (which is also a great mix, but much lighter, with more emphasis on the vocal tracks). Valor is trying hard to sound like Rozz and almost pulls it off - Rozz would never mumble to such a degree, but the transition between the frontmen is anything but traumatic, more like a hazy walk through an opium den; indistinct, alluring, perhaps deadly. Let the Valor haters chatter; this record is a remarkable listen.
