Music Review: Wonderful - A Must Have

I have owned this title is some form since it's release in 1972, I went to see the live performances in NYC shortly after the release, this music defined rock in 1972 for me!
The live show at Radio City Music Hall was among the finest display of a rock show I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing; Jack Bruce played a 6 string bass for the show and by the second song the whole audience was screaming "BRUCE! BRUCE!" which continued for most of the show. At one point Leslie and Jack took the front of the stage and had a guitar duel... trading riffs until Leslie looked beaten, at which point Jack Bruce gave the crowd a taste of why he was considered one the finest bass players in the world... he actually outplayed Leslie West's lead on the bass! The crowd was left with mouths open and a seemingly angry Mr West... and then the chant... BRUCE, BRUCE!
The next show I saw was at Carnegie Hall in NYC, but this time Jack came out with four string bass and was quite subdued compared to the Radio City show, it seemed to me Leslie West did not want a repeat of the guitar duel that embarrassed him last time, so they went through the motions for a decent show.
This recording is outstanding example of a 70's super group and should not be missed by any serious rock/blues fan. The follow up album "Whatever Turns You On" was poor in comparison and can safely be avoided, it sounded to me this release was the cause of the bands quick demise.
The live effort (Live N' Kickin') is more like the Carnegie Hall show, uninspired yet still worth a listen.
