Music Review: Not such a bad album.

I can't explain how much I like this cd. It fills a gap of something I was looking for. For some it may be a cheaper version of J.Lo, for me it's more than that. Even if she's not that big in the UK is due to the content of the cd that screams "I wanna be released in the US", which I doubt it will. All it needs is time to take ehat in Europe and chart again. Poor girl can't choose her singles and she wants to know why she fails? Choose better songs!1. Not such an innocent girl: Bizarre choice for a first single! First of all, it's a rejected song from Willa Ford and Vic had to settle with it and release it a first single, thanks to Virgin (Her record company). Anyway, I like it, it's not that bad, definitely a grower. It made #6 in the UK Top 75. 8/10
2. A mind of its own: They did it again. This is a mid-tempo ballad with Vick's personal lyrics but it won't make up if it charts poorly. All I can say is that this is one of the weak tracks from the album. It's already been tipped as a Top 5 hit, hopefully it will do better than the previous one. 8/10
3. That kind of girl: Personally for me this is where the album really begins! A smooth R&B track that shows a perosnal side of Vic and David. Laid back r&b track with catchy chorus. 8/10
4. Like that: My favorite from the album. The orchestra backing it gives sends a drama feel and the r&b beats with the strong bridges and choruses make it a wicked song. This should have been, not the first but the second single hands down! I prefer it to be the second one because NSAIG was like an introduction and this might have been an excellent follow up. Think Destiny's child mixed with J.Lo and you've got yourself a chart hit! Hopefully a single. 10/10
5. Girlfriend: Nice at first but gets annoying because she repeats the chorus like 10 times. This one's not for me, and what's with the "I'm cool" attitude? 6/10
6. Midnight fantasy: Hailed as a the "It will never be released as a single" song, MF is a Janet-type of song (Think "Someone to call my lover") It's catchy as hell and would definitely make a very good single. It's a mix of europop with a little garage feel. Nice to sing along. 9/10
7. I.O.U.: Rumors are saying this may be the third single. This is the first proper ballad in the album, but it's not a sappy one, this one's more up-tempo. Vick tells how she thankful is to David. It might go well, not sure really. I love the beginning of it. 9/10
8. Not trix, no games: When I read the title I thought she was talking about the cereal but she's not. This is power pop to the best. I love songs that have an attitude and there are several songs here that show it making Victoria reveal another side of her. This one is gonna be a favorite one for the girls who like to be themselves instead of faking it. 10/10
9. I wish: It begins like N'sync's "Girlfriend" but then turns into another in-your-face song with clever lyrics about a girl confused in a relationship. Straight up r&b that should work well in the dance floor although not one of my favorites and it's really an album filler. 8/10
10. Whatchu talkin bout: Everyone is saying that this song is the highlight of the album while I find it completely average; sure, if it's released in the US it might be a hit but it won't work for me, this is very plain r&b. 7/10
11. Unconditinal love: As a review said "The chorus makes your spine tingle", it was right. It's kind of an eerie song. It's a pop ballad but not sappy at all, quire enjoyable and check out the bridge, it's a killer. 10/10
12. Every part of me: This is where the cheese starts and thankfully it's in the last song. It starts with Brooklyn (Vick's son) laughing and the lyrics.....well, I can't stand them. For me is my least favorite from all the album but when I get to this song I let it play anyway cause I know that when it ends NSAIG will play again. 6/10
Overall grade: 8.25/10 which means, not bad but could be better.....a lot better! She needs to work on getting a wider range of producers and explore new sounds. I don't want her to drop her R&B style but she could do without the generic beats that float around the album. You'll love this cd I can guarantee you! For me it's in my Top 10 of the year 2001.
