Music Review: Excellent recording

This must be one of the most exciting recordings of Verdi's masterpiece. Sass gives a riveting performance. She uses a lot of chestnotes, and sometimes her voice is most unattractive- a scary Lady! Especially la luce langue is very powerful, and her interpretation of the sleepwalking scene is one of the best I have heard.
Bruson is in great voice, is a dramatic Macbeth, and the interaction between the two evil-doers comes accross very well. Unfortunately, there isn't much of Bergonzi on this set, but his rendition of o figli miei is included- superbly sung. Ghiuselev isn't great, but there is very little of his singing on this recording.
Previtali conducts very well, though I find the tempo in the ensemble of the first act a bit slow.
Sound quality, for a live performance, is acceptable- now and then there is some distortion as people move to or from the microphones. The enthusiasm of the audience is well captured, and adds to the excitement.
