Years ago I purchased volume one of this most excellent series of the complete songs of Robert Burns. For the first time, I was able to listen to certain versions of his poems set to music. The songs brought the poetry of Burns to life. After a long wait for the project to be finished, I was able to obtain the entire collection. The music is performed by many of the most important Scottish musicians. The tunes are sometimes presented in a very traditional fashion and other times you hear fantastic modern renditions. These are CDs that you will want to listen to over and over again. For some songs it is helpful to have an understanding of Scots English, it makes the verses that much enjoyable. The original bawdy versions of the songs are mostly consolidated on one CD, they are often quite funny. I wish that some day a similar project is undertaken to record the wonderful Child Ballads.
