"A m? me gustan los corridos porque son los hechos reales de nuestro pueblo": as? se abre "Jefe de Jefes", una de las grandes canciones de Los Tigres del Norte. Gracias a ellos, el narcocorrido conoce un ?xito imparable. Pero quienes creen que es un invento reciente, se equivocan: la prueba es "The Roots of the Narcocorrido", un recopilatorio sobre los or?genes de este subg?nero.
Desde sus inicios, el corrido ha sido el diario de todo tipo de historias, y en esos relatos tambi?n se incluyen las gestas de contrabandistas y traficantes de alcohol y drogas. "The Roots of the Narcocorrido" recoge canciones escritas entre 1880 y 1960, con grabaciones fechadas entre 1927 (el cupl? "La coca?na") y 2000 ("Corrido de Juan Garc?a").
En ese periplo, se distinguen dos tipos: los cantos heroicos sobre un traficante, resueltos con la muerte o detenci?n del protagonista; y los lamentos del prisionero que cumple condena y rememora sus haza?as. La mayor?a de estos corridos est?n basados en hechos reales, y cuentan las andanzas de personajes con nombres y apellidos. Por eso, resultan muy ?tiles los textos que acompa?an a cada canci?n con las letras y el contexto hist?rico.
"The Roots of the Narcocorrido" es un disco imprescindible para entender por qu? una cultura idolatra a sus delincuentes y los convierte en h?roes populares.
