Music Review: A compilation of covers and scraps

I've been a J & D fan for 46 years. There has been some good material and some not so good material. This falls into the latter. Apparently the songs were chosen to illustrate the diverse style and depth of Jan's work. In my humble opinion, they don't seem to do that. There aren't any alternate takes or studio cuts as are so often revealing. They're all just covers. The old audio tapes of Jan from around 1958 don't provide much insight to anything either. They just seem to be something someone found that would pad the length of the CD. The late Jan Berry had already established his place in the 20th century's music world. This CD does little, if anything, to promote that. Don't pay full price for this. However, in a few months when you find it on the discount rack for $1.99 then it's worth the purchase.
