Music Review: Needs re-recording

While this album Pop by U2 is probably their best.....and indeed a vastly different record and band that have made overated and hyped successers such as "All that You Can't Leave Behind" and "How to dismantle an atomic bomb", its good to see some people rate this album highly.
Back in 2006 Bono (Paul Hewson actually to anyone who does'nt know) "Bono" mentioned that there was still talk off re-entering the studio to re record of finish off the Pop record, hopefully that is true - although hopefully they mean finish it and not re-schedule it into their rather flat contribution to the Best of 1990-2000 that saw many (actually not that many) songs re-recorded or mixed - notably Mofo, Do You Feel Loved, If God Will Send His Angels, Last Night on Earth and Please were all missing.
Which is why its also important to buy the singles with this album as well, most notably If God Will Send His Angels, Last Night On Earth and Please which feature vastly different recorded versions of the songs - more similiar to the live versions that were played on the Popmart tour - The Single version of Discotheque features a different version than the album, as well as the B Side Holy Joe which should of made the album or at least been an extra track on every version of the album....especially since they did'nt finish it.
The dissapointment is, had the Popmart thing worked out better, then U2 would be in a very different place than they are now, or have been.
The back to basics approach they took after this album was good, but also kind of boring and overdone - and they ended up juicing it for to long as well - to the point where everybody knew who U2 were, but could'nt name one song.........????????????????
Who would of thought U2 would release an album like No Line on the Horizon 12 years later, although it also seems to be 12 years to late in some peoples books I'm sure.
