Music Review: Tom T. Hall is a story-teller and a philosopher

I 've never been big into country music; not because I don't like it, but rather because I just never had time to get to know it as intimately as I have been involved with classical and music and jazz. But I do like much of what I hear, and Tom T. Hall is one my favorites.
Tom T. Hall is not just a country singer; he's a story-teller and a philosopher. He paints a picture of life that is usually raw and sad. He speaks for the down and out: the poor, the beat-up, the mentally ill, the alcoholics, the hard-workers; the loose woman, and the indifference that people feel for one another.
He also speaks with a voice that is all country with a certain pride and feeling for his country roots buried deep in the American south.
I love Tom T. Hall and his music and I love this recording.

Waitresses, farmers, preachers, musicians, soldiers, hitchhikers, and assorted misters and ma'ams populate his stories, and Hall himself is the narrator, the observer, the straight man as it were, utterly fascinated by what most consider mundane.
