Music Review: Your Arms Would Always Hold Me

"The Mercury Years" highlights recordings after Yuro's most commercial period with Liberty records. While this music didn't sell as well, certainly incredible music wears well with the test of time. On Bobby Scott's "I Love My Man" she croons softly while strings drench the arrangement on a quiet intimate track. She takes the often-recorded Duke Ellington classic "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)" and reinvents it to a slow soulful crooner. Yuro's vocals are emotionally powerful on "Maybe You'll Be There," "You said your arms would always hold me; You said your lips were mine alone to kiss; Now after all the things you told me, how could it end like this?" The lush strings punctuate another stunning vocal on "There Must Be A Way." Teddy Randazzo's "Get Out of My Life" is tailor-made for Yuro's delivery. "Can't Stop Running Away" has a luscious pop sound, "I keep going day after day, trying to leave you behind; Keep on going, running away, but you're still on my mind." "Excuse me girl for being so cold and for the tears you shed; Can't you tell by the look in his eyes he didn't mean a word that he said?" Timi belts on the keep-your-hands-off-my-man theme on "Cuttin' In." "The Amazing Timi Yuro: The Mercury Years" includes all the tracks from her Mercury album plus a number of other singles recorded for the label. Whether her music sold or didn't, Yuro consistently kept up the quality as the result of her great talent. Enjoy!
