Music Review: Worth it for "Listen To The Band"
Rating: 3 Stars
Nesmith's "Listen To The Band" alone brings this otherwise OK late-sixties pop album up to three stars. Anyone else think it's interesting that this tune is usually presented in mono (the stereo version is the oddity) even on the stereo versions of the album? I view it as Nesmith's country-rock version of the "wall of sound." I also find it interesting that a tune like "St. Matthew" was omitted from this album in favor of the far weaker "Never Tell A Woman Yes."
The rest of the album is OK....Dolenz's "Mommy & Daddy" has always stood out and should have been the A-side of the "Good Clean Fun" single.
Overall this album sounds better than it did in 1969.
