Music Review: Not as enthused as others

When I first saw this CD, it seemed to be a very good choice. I like blues music, a bigger band sound, Taylor Hicks is my favorite AI (with a good blues/soul voice) and all the reviews were enthusiastic about it.
Well.....not meaning to be a Simon Cowell, I was disappointed.
Granted, it is hard to include singers/musicians who have not worked with a band, but, in listening to this live CD (maybe the DVD is better), I found myself tiring of the prolonged crowd noise and just average musicianship.
The Memphis Blues Orchestra and singers are very earnest in their attempt to create a good time and the crowd was loud but, for me, not much translated into a good, live, well-performed concert.
I did like some cuts, "Killing Floor", an unusual approach to "Whipping Post", "Not Fade Away", but, again, for the most part, it was just ok.
As alternatives, I would recommend the following for 5 star, live, blues band adventures - Delbert McClinton, "Live on Austin City Limits"; The Love Dogs, "Live and On Fire" (short though); Siegel-Schwall Band Reunion Concert; and, of course, most Allman Brothers Band live work.

The Little Memphis Blues Orchestra (LiMBO), once faced with possible extinction upon the American Idol win of their former leader, Taylor Hicks, has successfully regrouped and recorded their first on-location CD, Live At The Workplay Theatre. Recorded at Workplay on August 7, 2006 in the band's hometown of Birmingham, AL, LiMBO rocked the sold-out venue with their tight delivery of heart-pounding, get-up-and-boogie Southern Rock and funk as well as touching the audience with its classic, sweet soul sounds and rhythm and blues in the form of both covers and originals.
