Music Review: A Timeless Classic...

Ahhh fond memories... It was the summer of 1986 and I was a freshman in high school; already an avid fan of the B-52's since the debut of Rock Lobster, I was anxiously anticipating the release of their latest album which quickly became a big part of my soundtrack for that summer. I remember going to the beach, cruising the malls, hanging out with friends, or just wasting time driving around town and all the while listening to this album along with all of my other favorites from that same year; sadly the original copy that I had was on cassette tape, and I accidentally left it on the dashboard of my best friend's car on a hot sunny day and it melted; but luckily I was able to get a taped copy from another friend and that was the only copy that I had until I recently replaced it with the CD and I'm so glad that I did! This album is now 23 years old but I still don't get sick or tired of listening to it, which is one of the many reasons why I personally consider this album to be a timeless classic; to me (and a lot of my friends from the same time period) the songs really don't sound very "dated" and I can listen to any song on this album and it will instantly remind me of a certain place and time of where I was and what I was doing back when I was a teenager; it definitely takes me back to those days of simpler times; and if you just happened to be listening to this album for the first time and if you didn't know exactly what year this album was originally released, then you just might think it was something more recent, as did my own children who were shocked and amazed to find out that the music they were recently listening to and bobbing their heads to in the car one day was actually older than they were! That's one of the great things about the B-52's they have always had the ability to make simple, fun, quirky, catchy (or is that kitchy?) songs that are just downright fun and harmless and almost anyone can recognize their signature sound. Of course this album was also the last recording to feature original band member Ricky Wilson as he unfortunately died from a tragic accident during the recording of this album, and the band has dedicated Bouncing Off The Satellites to the memory of Ricky Wilson. But overall I would definitely rate this particular B-52's album as one of their best and it's also one of my personal all-time favorites and it will always have a special and significant place in my CD collection as a big part of the soundtrack of my youth! I highly recommend adding this album to the collection of any B-52's fan regardless if you are experienced listener or a novice beginner...
