Music Review: An Integral Part of any Guitarists Collection

There are many reviews on this CD but still felt compelled to add a few comments. I knew Ted and studied with him at the time he was writing his first book "Chord Chemistry" and when he was recording this album. Ted was a George Van Eps fan, as some have noted, yet it was the fact that he was a fan of so many that I found interesting. When I studied with him he was as likely to pull out a copy of the Bach Chorales as an arrangement transcribed from a Nat King Cole piece (Cole had an instrumental only career before becoming a singer). The next lesson he might say "Ever hear this thing that Clapton does ..." and then he would play a complex Clapton solo note for note. At another lesson he had me create a chord arrangement of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" because he thought that the best way to learn chord theory was to create a chord for every note in a song and that was a great song to use. Simply put, he was conversant in all styles of music. When he recorded this CD he was playing a lot in a music club in Santa Monica called the Attica and I had the chance to play along with him on many nights. He always captivated any audience he played to. He was a great musician and a wonderfully gentle person. No one who buys this album will be dissapointed.
