Music Review: No Sophmore Slump For Steve Forbert
Rating: 5 Stars
Many artists whose first album is great hit a slump with their second. Not Steve Forbert. JACKRABBIT SLIM is best known for the hit "Romeo's Tune", but if that's all you're hearing, you're missing out on a lot of good stuff. Although a bit slicker than ALIVE ON ARRIVAL, this CD is nevertheless still a great roots-rock record, blending such influences as Marshall Tucker, the Outlaws, and Jackson Browne, and adding piano-organ interplay reminiscent of the Band, creating a unique country-folk-rock sound that influenced many alt-country-rock artists of the late 90s. This is a CD you shouldn't pass up.
