Music Review: A disappointing waste of time

How can an interviewer go on air with such renowned artistes as Donald Fagen and Walter Becker without having done any homework or research into the music of Steely Dan? I must admit I know nothing about Marian McPartland, her music or her radio show, but after hearing this CD I'm glad I live in Australia and have never been exposed to such dribble.
I have been a Steely Dan fan since I was a kid - it was through their music that I discovered jazz and ultimately studied jazz music myself. I was delighted to find a CD that contained not only live music of S.D. but interviews as well (as any serious fan knows Becker and Fagen are not entirely helpful when it comes to interviews). Almost as soon as I started listening to this CD I was disappointed - not so much with S.D.'s playing, which is quite bare due to the limited instrumentation but with the McPartland's interview.
The at times awkward interview centres mostly on S.D.'s jazz record collection, how they came to love jazz and nostalgic memories of listening to Duke Ellington. It is extremely clear from this interview that McPartland has only briefly heard one album - "2 Against Nature". No mention of any other albums, the various legendary session musicians, the use of the studio as a compositional device, or the break up and reformation of the band (the things that fans want to hear about), or anything really that interesting.
McPartland's slow meandering interviewing style is tedious and annoying, and at times cringe-worthy - for instance when she refers to "Gaslighting Annie" instead of "Gaslighting Abby". The only saving grace is when they talk about S.D.'s unusual lyrics and how they've come about.
Do your self a favour and save your money... if I wasn't such a huge Steely Dan fan I would have probably thrown this CD out as soon as I finished listening to it.
