Music Review: female arabic vocalists

I am particularly fond of female vocalists. And especially arabic or greek women. Souad Massi has the most beautiful voice. And what I have noticed more about her than others is that I can hear each minute articulation of the words. A lot of that depends on how much back ground music is present. And I have come to dislike electronic sounds especially when over used, which seems to be the case nowadays. This particular album by Souad Massi is acoustic and the accompanying instruments never over shadow her voice. She reminds me of Joan Baez. Her voice is so naturally vibrant without enhancement. I wish she would record more music similar to this album. I didn't like the others as much as this one for the simple reason that the others tended too much to westernization. Westernization really spoils culture. Maybe it sells better but I prefer simple unenhanced raw culture even if it tends toward atonalities. I also like Savina Yannatou but some of her songs seem to be dominated by electronically invented sounds. Which would be OK if the technicians had any sensitivity but they don't usually. Too much or too many sounds all at once. I don't speak a word of Arabic. I like the voice in the context of a musical instrument.
