Music Review: The Real Deal

These two albums, but Kill Yr. Idols in particular (okay, Mini-LP) sealed the deal in terms of my love for Sonic Youth back in the mid-80's. 'Bad Moon Rising' and 'EVOL' were my introductions to the band, but these completed the picture for me. A filling in of all the gaps that those records had opened up in terms of what could be done with sound/noise. They paved the way, and opened my mind to what music could be and how it could be made that has coloured my listening over the last 20 years. Although I don't play them so much anymore - a time thing, rather than a quality thing - it is safe to say that my life wouldn't be be the same without them. Must be strange discovering them now though? No, they don't sound like Daydream Nation (which was a source of great disappointment back then too...only for the opposite reason...if you get my drift...)
