Music Review: Love it

Being a long-time Something Corporate fan, I was anxiously awaiting this CD. "Leaving Through the Window" is one of my favorite CDs and I knew it would be hard to top. After "North" came out, I don't want to say that SC topped LTTW but they've definitely measured up to it. The two CDs are different in sound and are rather difficult to compare. Though they both come from the same artist and some of the songs bare some similarity, they don't merit comparison. Both amazing in their own ways, the two CDs are two of my favorite of all time. Basically, if you like SC, you're not going to be disappointed by this album unless you only liked songs like "IF U C Jordan" and "Drunk Girl". My favorite songs to listen to off "North" (currently, they're always changing) are "As You Sleep", "Down", "She Paints Me Blue", "Ruthless", "The Runaway" and "Break Myself" - but really, the only song I don't listen to often is "Miss America". Though it is an okay song, it's not half as good as every other song that Something Corporate has done. The rest of them trade on and off as my favorites, and this CD is the one that is constantly in my CD player and doesn't seem like it's coming out anytime soon.

Track # - Song title - Lyric sample - Commentary
1. As You Sleep - "But as you sleep / and no one is listening/ I will lift you off your feet/ I'll keep you from sinking" Amazing opener. The piano combined with the vocals and lyrics make-up a very soothing, great-to-listen-to song.
2. Space - "Give me space so I can breathe / Give me space so I can sleep / Give me space so you can drown in this with me" 1st single. Upbeat and catchy, it's hard to not love.
3. Down - "But I need some echo in the emptiness / All I want / but you can't change this loneliness / Look what you've found / I'm falling down" On first listen, I didn't think this song measured up to SC's standards. After a few more, it's one of my favorites. The lyrics and masterful chorus are what really pulled me into this song.
4. Only Ashes - "And ashes just fall to the ground..." Masterpiece. I think it's different from a lot of the other songs SC has ever done. It has the same catchiness, piano, etc. but the lyrics and composition of the song differs from the others and I definitely love it.
5. Me And The Moon - "No one's so sure if her crime had a reason / but reasons like seasons / they constantly change / and the seasons of last year / like reasons / have floated away" One of the best on the album and ever done by SC. As most of the other reviewers have stated, this song is simply amazing.
6. The Runaway - "Cause by now / I know you better than you know yourself / and I know what you really need / what you need or I need / but either way / this is where you should be / here with me / or I'll bleed / so much that you won't believe" - This song took me a few listens to warm up to, but now it's one of my favorite songs ever. The lyrics are heart-warming and the melody of the song is great.
7. Ruthless - "This is the only lonely picture / waiting on my floor / littering my shore / this is the last true burning letter / given to a girl / written by a boy / living in a world / created to destroy" The first song I loved off this album. The lyrics are so craftily done and the piano accompaniment is so wonderful that it remains one of my favorite songs to listen to.
8. She Paints Me Blue - "Tonight I watched the lights go out at your house / Wondering how I could get so deep / And you could still get sleep / In vain I blame my trembling on the cold air / But I can't hide that I relied on you / Like yellow does on blue" I'll say this simply: I personally think it's impossible not to love this song. Currently my absolute favorite. The piano, lyrics, and emotion in this song are outstanding.
9. Break Myself - "I'm willing to break myself/ To shake this hell / from everything I touch / I'm willing to bleed for days / More reds and grays / So you won't hurt so much" The lyrics in this song don't fail to amaze me everytime I listen to it. The catchy choruses and verses guarantee this song to be one of everyone's favorites.
10. I Won't Make You - "I'm under attack again my dear / I'm in the way / Got no resolutions / No clever anecdotes to say / And still if I yell at the top of my lungs / Will it be the same? / I'd fly you a flag / I'd bury this pen into my veins" - Not as catchy as some of the songs on the album, but the lyrics are incredible and I love the song.
11. 21 And Invincible - "Some days go by / I wish I was famous/ Or maybe religious / So I could go to heaven / Just like you / I can have a big house / Complain about taxes / Payoff my ex's / Ain't that living? / No one makes fun of me / Cause I can't stand up for myself" - Fun song. The lyrics are less serious than the rest of the album and it's an upbeat catchy song that's great to listen to loud with the top down on a sunny day.
12. Miss America - "And I don't care if you don't love me / And I don't care if you won't change / I could live inside the shadow that I cast on you / And the myth that you would stay / And I'll be home before the morning comes / You won't have to be alone" Though this song has great lyrics and really is an okay song, it still remains as the one song that I don't listen to repeatedly.
