The only reason why I didn't give this CD a 1 star is because Ted can hit the high notes, clear and true, just like his teacher taught him, which is something that cannot be said of all pretenders to the Phantom role. But that's about the only positive thing I can say about this CD. It isn't even that he is monotonous. He isn't. He tries to vary his voice and put what he thinks is emotion into his delivery but it just doesn't come through. To me he sounds like fingernails scratching on a chalk board. OUCH!
And his song choice for the most part are poor. A song dedicated to Sara Lee cakes? How lame can you get!
The samples on this page sound halfway decent, which is what induced me to buy it but he sounds a lot worse when you hear the whole song. I am glad I bought a used copy so that way I am only half as sorry as if I had purchased it full price.
If you want to hear a beautiful Phantom voice buy the London cast album and listen to Michael Crawford. He is the BEST. Or buy Davis Gaines' "Against the Tide" or Michael Ball's Broadway album or Anthony Warlow's "Centre Stage" (great) or even Ethan Freeman's solo album if you can find it. Those are Phantoms worth listening to. Keegan?... Save your money.
