Music Review: *Explosive* Live Performance From Bassey!

I wouldn't call myself a Shirley Bassey fan, but I do enjoy her music. Of course I knew the James Bond movie hits, "Gold Finger" and "Diamonds Are Forever," but that was about it. I did receive a remix album The Remix Album: Diamonds Are Forever as a gift that featured cool mixes of Ms. Bassey's hits and I liked that CD and I also had her Shirley Bassey - The Greatest Hits, so when I came across SHIRLEY BASSEY: LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL, at my local music store, I decided to give it a try.
This is a great "live" album! Bassey not only shows off her fierce dynamic vocal ability, but just listening to her rapport with the audience and you'll understand why so many adore this legendary diva.
I believe the concert was recorded in 1973 and Bassey is in fine voice. From her outlandish phrasing on "Goldfinger" to her belting out "Johnny One Note," Bassey is glorious. Even with cover versions of the Carpenter's "For All We Know" and George Harrison's "Something," she puts her personal stamp on the tunes without taking anything away from the originals.
Sound quality on the CD is pretty good and you can hear the audience and the band equally well. I recommend this CD for Bassey fans or anyone who enjoys listening to an exciting live performance from the days when singers really had talent.
