lung diseases aside, this album makes a fellow want to go out and tear a few throats out. speaking of throats, my friend pat doesn't have one... the poor chap has to breathe through a plastic tube. not that that's so bad, but the heck of it is that the tube is pink, which makes everyone assume that he had it costom-painted (which he probably did, but will never admit). ever since the accident, though, pat has refused to listen to scratch acid, because the gutteral noises and incoherent screams of mr. david yow make pat long for the days when he could do the same. indeed, pat could do a rather fair impression of yow, but sadly those days are well behind him. despite his self-imposed abstinence from this album, pat started a band in honour of scratch acid. obviously, pat cannot talk (let alone sing), so he plays guitar. unfortunately, the singer -- a guy named chris, whose voice couldn't be much worse -- just doesn't capture the magic that pat once had. from what pat tells me, the band is having very little success; he claims that local clubs refuse to book them because his plastic tube scares off the customers. i happen to think he's just making excuses, because his band is simply unable to capture the essence of scratch acid. this album, though, is a fine testament to the wonderful throat of david yow, the most unique vocalist of the past two decades. the second half of the album drags on a bit, perhaps, but it's certainly worth the price of admission.
