Description of Prayer for Peace: Sacred Choral Music in the Modern Age

The works on this disc share a common quality, a move away from the stresses of today's constantly accelerating pace of living, a focus on the present rather than the future. Listening to them, we discover a wealth of emotion and, most poignantly, a profound joy. All works use the unaccompanied human voice, the first and most personal instrument ever played. The composers have translated into music their ecstasy and their grief, their anger and pain, their tenderness, delight and joy, their thankfulness and their awe: a sacred meditation rich in spiritual and earthly experiences. For our cover we have chosen to use the Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome), a permanent witness to the terrible disaster that occurred when the atomic bomb was used as a weapon for the first time in the history of mankind, now symbolizing hope for perpetual peace in our world.
