Music Review: MOSTLY EARLY SONGS BEFORE GREATNESS - NOT WORTH BUYING

It is one thing to love a recording artist's voice and phrasing and another thing to love the particular songs, including instrumentation, that the same artist sings. I, and many more of you, love Sam Cooke's voice and phrasing. However, after I ordered Classic Allbum and Singles Collection, I listened to the 3 cd set once and got rid of it. The title, Classic Album and Singles, is misleading. Most of the songs on this cd set are either elaborate orchestral productions or are more intimate renditions of "white" pop songs of the 1950-60 time period, neither of which will make a lasting positive impression upon you. None of these particular songs ever were or ever will be remembered as wonderful recordings of Sam Cooke. The few wonderful songs found on Classic Album and Singles are also found on The Man and His Music and Portait of a Legend. Therefore, from a listening pleasure point of view, there is no good reason to own this cd.
