My 2011 started with the much anticipated arrival of Russell Watson's latest offering 'La Voce'. He is, without doubt, a tenor of the highest ability in what ever genre he records.I particularly love his classical tenor voice and 'La Voce' is certainly in this class and does not disappoint. It is, however, different because it seems his voice has matured and that the raw power of his earlier renditions has been replaced by a far more controlled voice. The dynamic beauty of his voice is still there and the ease with which he obtains the high notes, for example, the controlled beauty of the final note in 'Intermezzo'.The tracks were all new to my repertoire of Russell Watson and I must say on the first hearing tears were not far away and it will be a much played CD. If, like me, you are a Russell Watson fan you must get this CD because,I know, you will love it.
Description of La Voce
2010 release from the British tenor who practically invented the classical crossover genre. Recorded in June 2010 with the Roma Sinfonietta--Ennio Morricone's orchestra of choice--and produced by Mike Hedges, Russell Watson's voice has never sounded better. Stronger, more driven and powerful, his renditions of Pino Donaggio's "Io Che Non Vivo (Senza Te)", Mario Lanza's "Arrivederci Roma" and "Parla Piu Piano" (the theme from The Godfather) are as impressive as you'd expect from a man singing with, literally, a new lease of life after overcoming two life-threatening brain tumours. In 2008, when the Salford born tenor finished radiotherapy for the pituitary tumor that saw him undergo emergency surgery, he decided to embark on a return to music.
