Music Reviews of Snakes & Arrows Live 2 CD Set

Music Review: Rocks, of course
Rating: 4 Stars

For a band that's known for its technical prowess and studio-perfect sound, it's ever been amazing how fantastic they are live. While this CD doesn't live up to the raw beauty of A Show of Hands or Exit Stage Left, it's certainly nicer to listen to than the Rio set, which was just too harsh. And the new S&A songs are just perfect - just what you'd expect from some of their best studio stuff since Counterparts.
The setlist departs a bit from the US setlist, and the 2nd CD doesn't come on quite so strong. But CD #1 is just amazing, and worth a few loops before you move on.
Get it. Enjoy it. There's only so much new Rush left, after 34 years.

Music Review: A little sluggish
Rating: 3 Stars

I have been a Rush fan since the 70's and I will start by saying they are a GREAT band. Musicians through and through. The album has a great set list, I was at the Madison Square Garden show. The only thing that bothered me, and maybe it's just my musician ears, is that almost every song seems to be the same or close to the same tempo. For me it made the album draaagggg on. Limelight, digital man, and Entre nous just seemed to go on and on. I don't know. I will probably just put my favorite tracks on the old MP3 player, but I'm not sure about listening to the whole thing at once more than once. Sorry, you guys rock, but just a little slower I guess.

I'll make this short and sweet. For me this is not worth full price. Rush are great, even in their old age. However they play way to many songs here, it sounds like their getting through the motions. They should shorten the concert, put more quality into the songs/speed it up back to the way it was originally recorded, add more embelishments, instead of playing exactly the same. Bottom line Rush CAN DO better, and the Drum solo, I will argue with anyone is nowhere near his best, even in his recent years, seems like he's just showing off those fancy expensive drums that cost more than most peoples homes!

Music Review: Very good show,
Rating: 5 Stars

I actually had the luxery to see this show live a couple years ago in Irvine, CA and must say its the best live show ive ever heard and seen. Considering it was in a closed area the sound was full compared to Rush in Rio, which escaped away from the audience making it for poorer sound quality.

There were a few of songs i didnt grow up listening to like Entre Nous and Natual Science from Permanent Waves album and A Passage To Bangkok from 2112, but sounded really good if not better than the studio album themselves(yeah im pushing it).

I really enjoyed it, and would love to see them play again sometime.

Music Review: Absolutely worth getting
Rating: 4 Stars

It's not perfect---I would have mixed it a little differently, there's a little too much distortion when you play it loud. On the other hand, there are clearly very few (if any?) overdubs here and it sounds EXACTLY like it did when I saw them on the first leg of this tour. The Snakes and Arrows songs generally sound very good and I love the version of "Secret Touch" on here (among other songs). It's just a really good live album that gives you your money worth (the entire show) and closes with a great encore of One Little Victory-Passage to Bangkok-YYZ. I've been listening to it non-stop since I got it...usually a good sign!
