Music Review: Great for wakeman fans . Newcomers get studio version first

this cd is a nice ride for hardcore fans like me. But COMPARED TO THE STUDIO VERSION THIS LIVE VERSION INTEGRALLY IS INFERIOR, IMHO.
The six wives that wakeman recorded in his early twenties has such a unique and haunting sound, that this grandiose live version just cannot reach those studio heights...
IT HAS very INTERESTING, DIFFERENT PASSAGES HERE AND THERE, and THIS NEW SONGs Tudrock and Defender Of The Faith are good and blend almost ok, but have few to do with the stature of the original six traks. And we have too the repetitive Tortudore new track, although it has great intro and end segments. Defender of the faith, as Rick states in the dvd, was originally composed for the studio album but was left out because of the LP time restraints. The rest of the well known songs are BEAUTIFUL AS EVER.
NOW...IF YOU WANT TO CLIMB SONIC STEPS UP, seek the japanese 2009 studio remastered version that kicks serious ass, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SHAKE YA own ASS DOWN $ $ TO GET THIS wonderous studio replica somewhere online
The studio version is, for me, the best wakeman record ever, made at his creativity peak, between rolls royces dreams to become true, booze, and monumental creativity and skills. For me Wakeman is on the top end of prog rock keyboard craft along with K Emerson and of course Eddie Jobson, who i recommend inmediatly if you have not digged him yet. Specially his green zinc album and with UK's supergroup albums.

Rick Wakeman's "The Six Wives Of Henry VIII" is one of the landmark albums of the seventies, a critical and commercial success that has sold in excess of 15 million copies worldwide. In May 2009, Rick Wakeman finally achieved his long held dream of performing the entire album live at Hampton Court Palace. It was the first time the whole album had ever been performed in concert & included the Henry VIII track "Defender Of The Faith," that had to be cut from the original album for space reasons, plus new opening and closing pieces.
