Music Review: A genuinely fresh and enthralling sound.

The incomparable vocalist has come up with an urbane and passionate set of popular songs that she performs with ease and style.
The album is a collaboration with Regina Belle and musician/producer George Duke with most of the songs being chosen by Belle, who aimed towards classic, familiar songs, as contemporary as possible.
Containing tracks previously recorded by Tony Bennett, Al Jarreau, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Patti Austin and Sarah Vaughan, this is a classy and feel-good stroll of an album that showcases Ms Belle's confidence and mastery of material that is outside of her usual repertoire.
Striving for an emotional authenticity and real world sound for the album, Belle and Duke recorded the entire album live in the studio with an A-list ensemble of elegantly sympathetic musicians.
One thing you have to say about Regina Belle is she sings jazz standards, and she sings them very well.
So many have come into covers in recent years, rocked them up and done more harm than good until jazz is so far removed from its roots that its hard to see where it came from.
Regina may not be an original but she's brought some standards back home without taking the heart out of them.
This album is pure soul/jazz, great songs, played well, with a whole lot of heart and soul in it, and that's what counts and Regina does it all so well.
I have just listened to this album three times in a row and it is absolutely delightful.
Regina this time offers a more mature, well-grounded and wholly original piece of work which cannot fail to grab your attention and make you listen. There's fast and slow, funk and jazz, soul and R&B - in fact there's something for everyone, regardless of what music you are in to.
This piece of work had me hooked by the first listen but it gets better every time you listen to it. If you want to dip your toes into Jamie's music, this is the one to buy first.
Thereafter, you will be hooked.
