Music reviews of Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (Dlx) (Dig)

Music Review: Definately Not Their Best Album.
Rating: 3 Stars

The first thing that I do when I buy a new album (aka CD), is to make myself a copy to use. I've had too many originals stolen or damaged over the years. As I was cleaning up and the second disc was still in the drive I started to listen. The first song on the second disc is Fuhre Mich which was a kicking song. I thought to myself, man if the rest of this album is this good this thing is goin to rock. It was another day or so before I was able to listen to more, but sadly I was not as impressed with some of the songs on the first disc. At first I really hated the album outside of one or two songs. To me Industrial Rock, and bands like Rammstein, have a certain sound. Its like the background music that used to play on Monster Garage, gritty but melodic guitar rifts and just plain old ripping rock. Rammstein appealed to me early on because they had a real clean sound instead of a bunch of noise and screaming that was and is typical of music of this type. I have all of their works on CD and DVD. Maybe I had my expectations up a bit, but in the end, I'm not going to sit here and blindly say that this is their greatest album ever, or it all rocks, or kicks butt, or what ever. It does not. I'm not sure what the band was trying to accomplish actually. Some songs are all pure Rammstein the way we know and love them. But others are a radical departure. There are 5 ballads on the CD's, and only one is typical of a Rammstein ballad that we've heard in the past. Are they trying to move in a new direction, or are they grasping and struggling to come up with material. We'll never know without a face to face interview where honest answers are given. Would love to, but I cannot see that happening. Anyway, here is my review of this album in its entirety. I purchased the Deluxe edition which is a two CD set, and I highly recommend anyone who is going to buy this to get this version and get the bonus tracks as three of the better songs, including the best one on the whole album are on that disc.

Disc #1

Rammlied (Rammsong) - Opens like a huge stage show would with a big entrance, lots of mystery, and chanting like verses before entering into an epic bit of music typical of Rammstein that's very fast paced. The song is basically a boast about the band coming back from somewhat of a hiatus that they've been on, a big announcement that they are back, we are great, no other bands can pass us, you are now to be rewarded for your patience. A great concert opener for sure. Not a bad song at all I rate is Very Good.

Ich Tu Dir Weh (I Hurt You) - The song opens with a pleasant melodic keyboard rift with a mix of pounding drums that lead eventually to an excellent guitar rift that sets the tone for the whole song. Basically more typical Rammstein sound. The song is a very dark song actually that tells the story of a possessive and abusive person who gets off on the pain they can inflict on the one they love and not care about it at all like they are just an object to them.I rate this song Good.

Waidmanns Heil (Hunters Salutation) - Wow, this song opens with grand trumpets blaring just like you would expect to hear at the beginning of a great hunt then quickly gets into fast paced pounding heavy metal rifts the kind we expect from Rammstein. The song is about a horny man who is going out and meeting up with other horny men to "hunt" for young deer aka young females to have sex with. The song makes the parallel between traditional hunting and males hunting for a sexual prey all the while saluting each other with Wiedmanns Heil salutations. A Very Good song.

Haifisch (Shark) - The song gets off to a weak start with a sort of Midi sound which does not fit in at all with the industrial heavy metal sound we are expecting from this type of band. Fortunately, they do pick it up a bit as the song goes along, but its not enough to get past the cheap nightclub sound of the song, so it leaves the song lacking. The song is about a man who is in a committed relationship and has agreed to abide by the rules in that regard. But inside he is crying because the shark in him misses the hunt which is what he wants and needs deep down inside. But no one can see him cry as the sea if life hides his tears. I rate this song just OK.

B**** or Buckstabu (What Ever You Want) - This title is very hard to translate as its actually a made up word. But according to band members it means what ever you want. The song starts out with an unusual base guitar rift followed by the drums, and eventually introducing the lead guitar, and in the background the keyboards are evident. The song has some decent rifts, but they are almost drowned out by deep loud throaty growling of the versus by Till, which just adds to the irritating sound of this song. The song appears to be about homosexual torment of a person who is tempted to try the act once. We are not sure if its a desire or just a curiosity, but the struggle with having to endure that and deal with their inner demons is real. I rated this song Poor.

Fruhling In Paris (Spring in Paris) - This is the first slower ballad song on the CD. The song starts out with a folksy guitar as Till sings, and has uninspiring ups and downs in tempo as the song progresses. Of course its a love song, but not about a current love as the person is reminiscing about a love they once met in Paris in the springtime, and they fell for, and although they did not speak or understand each others native languages, love transcended that barrier and prevailed both emotionally and physically. The French love it, but for us here in the US its not their best ballad by a long shot, and I rated this song Fair.

Wiener Blut Viennese Blood) - This song starts out oddly with old music playing in the background. Till breaks in singing while creepy noises come and go in the background. Then suddenly the song breaks out into a frenzy with drums and guitar play that's pretty intense, but totally lacks anything remotely familiar to Rammstein. The song settles down again while more creepy sound affects play in the background as Till sings. This song is very creepy and very very dark. It tells the tale of torture, assault, sex abuse and rape and is based on the true story of Josef Fritzl who locked his daughter up in a dark basement soon after her birth and kept her there for 24 years along with 7 children she bore over the years from being raped. A nasty story indeed. Unfortunately, this song does not sound at all like Rammstein, and comes across as crass and noisy, unlike Mein Teil which was another dark story put to song by the band. I rate this one Poor.

Pu$&y - This song starts out very progressive, and sounds like a lot of the bands earlier works with a big techno sound you'd expect to hear in cheap Asian nightclubs. The song is not that bad as it has a great beat, and a fun sound which would be great to dance to. But the song is about cheap sex, and sounds like something you'd expect out of a teen aged band playing to tweens, and not something that a mature band with the potential of Rammstein would or should waste their talents on. Maybe they just did it for giggles, we certainly hope so for their sake. Not even the good beat can save this one, its sort of funny if your immature, otherwise its a loser. I rate it Poor.

Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da (There is Love For Everyone) - This is the title song for the CD, and I don't think its a good representation of the band. Its not all bad, as it does have a somewhat military sound. Its quite progressive, and fast paced. The song starts out with military sounding drum leads, and quickly progresses into a fast paced intense song. But the song is totally lacking in that industrial heavy metal harmonic guitar sound we are looking for from bands like Rammstein. Its almost like the guys just sat down and started to play whatever they felt like getting far away from their industrial sounding roots. The song is again about sex, and men on the prowl for sex partners. They like what they see all around them everywhere they go, and make it known as to what they are there for and looking for. They take partners wheither they want to be taken or not, and enjoy every minute of their lust. Some accept their advances and other do not. I rate this song Poor.

Mehr (More) - This song starts out with a wild strumming guitar that lends a very mysterious sound, its very progressive and a bit haunting. Till breaks in with the vocals, and then the song breaks out into a frenzy of typical Rammstein rifts of melodic heavy metal guitar. Its a great sound with a pleasant twist. Although the song sounds innocent enough, its actually about the endless need for sex and love, and how they need a lot of it to be satisfied. More is better, but no matter how much more they get they discover it does not matter because they really don't need it, but on the other hand they can never get enough to really be satisfied. I rate this song Very Good.

Rotor Sand (Red Sand) - I am really on the fence with this song. For me personally, I cannot stand the beginning of this song. The song begins with a person whistling a tune, which is followed by a folksy guitar and Till singing. This song is a ballad, the second on the CD, If it were not for the whistling, this would be a classic Rammstein ballad, soft, somber and sad. The song is about a woman who has two love interests. She loves the one but not the other. The one she doesn't love confronts the other man and an argument ensues and leads to gun play, a duel. The man she loves is shot in the face and chest and dies. As he is dying he contemplates his senseless fate and the fact that no one will avenge his death. I rate this song OK.

Disc #2

Fuhre Mich (Lead Me) - This is the absolute best song on the CD hands down. This is classic Rammstein Industrial Heavy Head banging Rock. The song starts out with a menacing guitar rift and excellent tempo with the all too familiar vocals by Till. This song will guarantee you will be dancing in your seat and bobbing your head to the beat. The song is about Siamese twins who feel each others every pain, emotion, joy and sadness. Joined forever unable to be separated from each other, they accept their fate and lead each other through life sharing everything. This song fracking rocks!!!! I rate it Outstanding!

Donaukinder (Children of Danube) - This is the second best song on the CD's. The song starts out sounding a lot like Mutter, with Till coming in soon after with the first verses before the whole song explodes with majestic guitar rifts sending the song to its crescendo. This song is a true heavy rock ballad, and is classic Rammstein in that regard. Beautiful melodies and lyrics throughout. The song is a sad song however and tells the true story of the deadly disaster that took place in a small town named Baia Mare in Romania where floods washed arsenic into the Danube and as it flowed hundreds of miles down stream it killed everything in its path and tainted waterways, and ponds along the way. The rats survived and fed well on the dead and dying animals along the banks. There is contention as to exactly what or who the Children of the Danube are, are they really human children who perished from being poisoned, or are they the fish which in Europe are called the children of the seas. Anyway, this song rocks too, and I rated it at Excellent.

Halt (Stop) - This song starts outwith a good progressive beat that sounds like the beginning of Hogans Hero's TV show, and you can tell its definitely Rammstein from the unique sound rifts once the boys get into it. Till jumps in with long strings of lyrics that at times seem too much for him to belt out all at once they are so long. The chorus' are powerful bursts of melody with Till singing out Halt, and in the end you have this twisted toy like melody playing in the background that reminds you of the Pink Floyd insane asylum rifts from Dark Side of The Moon. This song is about a tormented soul who has been changed by society, and the people around him. But he hates what he has become and begs for them to stop and go away. They do not, so he takes matters into his own hands, and eliminates them from his life himself. I rate this song Good.

Rotor Sand (Red Sand) Orchester Version - I detect no difference between this song and the one on Disc #1.

Liese - This song starts out the exact same way as Rotor Sand (Red Sand) because its essentially the same song with different lyrics. Again, its very non-typical of what we are expecting from a band like Rammstein, and what they are trying to do, go off in a new direction or what, is unknown. Liese is a girl who in this version of the song has caught the attention of Jacob. She tends geese and he farms. Its been a while for Jacob and he is horny. He has a desire to have Liese and approaches her, but she is cold. But with gentle caressing and some persuasion he gains her attention, and hopefully her approval, and they head to the wheat fields where he plants his seed in her and holds her for the rest of the day in his arms. He is satisfied, but she remains cold. At least in this version he gets the girls instead of a bullet. I rate this song OK.
