Music Reviews of This Is Hardcore + Like a Friend

Music Review: "OH-SO HARDCORE!"
Rating: 5 Stars

Cerebral familiarity paves the lyrical landscape of "Hardcore". Subtlety is elevated to an art on this album. When preoccupation has set your body on "auto" your mind wanders(while washing your dishes for a prime example). The grandiose ideas of "Hardcore" are the seemingly "mundane" thoughts of common people. Profound in their simplicity and elequintly written. Set to lush listening music that every thinking bachelor needs. BRILLIANT!

Music Review: Possibly one of the best cd's I've ever heard
Rating: 5 Stars

This Is Hardcore is amazing. I got into Pulp when Different Class came out and instantly fell in love. This album blows Different Class away; if that is even possible. Jarvis Cocker is a master at conveying real emotion with his lyrics. Every single song is great. I suggest that everyone get this album even if they've never heard of Pulp. This is Hardcore is one of the best albums I've ever heard or will probably ever hear(until the next Pulp album, of course).

Music Review: One of the Best albums of 99
Rating: 5 Stars

Yet another breakthrough album for Jarvis Cocker and Pulp. This is Hardcore is so perfectly pieced together and the title song is on my list of one of the best songs ever written and recorded. If you've never heard of Pulp this is a great album to start with. It's a real transition from their other albums and just shows how they are evolving. Without a doubt they will be around for quite some time to come. Buy this album now, you will not regret it.

Music Review: BEST OF THE BEST
Rating: 5 Stars

Just when I thought they couldn't possibly edit a better LP than 'Different class', Pulp just went on and made it. How can you describe such a record? Every song is just wonderful (Sylvia, The day after the revolution, Help the aged, A little soul, TV movie... and all the others!). Whoever reads this review and still hasn't bought it, don't waste your time and do it. In my opinion, the best LP I've ever heard. You can't possibly regret buying it.

Music Review: Simply brilliant
Rating: 5 Stars

Jarvis & Co. have outdone themselves. There's not a dud on this album, but the highlights are "Dishes," "Help the Aged," "A Little Soul," and "Party Hard." What's amazing is the wistful, almost sad quality of some of the songs - we've come a long way from "Joyriders." And yet we haven't, as "This is Hardcore" points out. Terrific stuff. Can't wait to see them live.
