Music Review: One of the best metal/hard rock releases of the 90s.

Until just recently, Project 86's debut album was the only release of theirs that I did not own. Not to say that I had never heard the album before, because it was a big hit amongst me and my high school buddies.
Since there has been a recent lull in good metal releases, I decided to revisit this great cd, and finish my Project 86 collection. While Truthless Heroes is considered by many to be their crowning achievement (and I count myself in that opinion), this release may be a close second. The thing is, I love all of their cds so much, it is hard to decide the order of greatness. If you are a fan of alternative metal, you will probably dig these guys. Not only are the music and vocals outstanding, but the lyrics are as deep and thought-provoking as you will find in music. I saw someone lump them into the rap metal genre. I wonder if that person ever listened to these guys before. They are most definitely NOT rap metal. I don't recall any rapping being done. Rap metal is Limp Bizkit. If you like to detect what bands influenced them, I can hear shades if Rage Against the Machine in the riffage, the off-kilter musicianship similar to Tool, but really there is no band out there that sounds like them. They've got a really great sound, and they like to tweak it now and again to keep things fresh. If you are just getting into them, I recommend picking up this one and Truthless Heroes, or if you have some extra X-Mas money, why not get the whole set? It is money well spent, in my opinion.
