Music Reviews of Progressions: 100 Years Of Jazz GuitarMusic Review: Mixed bag, disappointing Rating: 3 Stars
Some great music here, but I'm at a loss to understand many of the selections - vocals, rock, blues, and some totally inexplicable choices. Why on earth they'd pick songs featuring tenor sax, organ, and singers like Tony Bennett is a mystery. I'm guessing the selections have more to do with licensing and availability than prime examples of great jazz guitar. I think I can manage one "mix tape" CD out of the 4 CD's in the box.
Nice booklet.

I've had this box set for more than a year now and really enjoy it. It has been a good way to explore many of the jazz guitar masters. I just picked up three CDs from artisits I disovered through this set; Al di Meola, Mike Stern and John McLaughlin. Id covers everything from early innovators through fusion masters.

Sometimes you just love something but have no idea about where it came from - its history. This set has filled in a lot of blanks for me and has had me listening to stuff by some great guitarists that I wouldn't ordinarily tune in to. And it's all good.

...more than what I expected, the sound quality is great, the recordings were done with conscienceness, most likely by a fellow jazz lover and the price was right and listerning to masters is what it is all about...
