Music Reviews of Pride & Glory (With Bonus CD)Music Review: A very Wylde tribute to Heavy Southern music... Rating: 5 Stars
This album Pride & Glory isn't only one of my 3 All-Time favorite Cd's....it's much more. As a guitar player I criticize a lot of guitar players, but Zakk has definatelly left me with too many good things to say. If we analize Zakk's style in guitar playin', it is way beyond good....comin' back on the Osbourne Institute of Rock. His singing isn't BAD AT ALL...he is not Freddie Mercury either but he has a very characterized style of singing like for example in "Cry Me A River" (which is a song that completely shows us his influence on southern music). The first song "Loosing Your Mind" has a perfect intro which basically tells you in 24 seconds how the rest of the CD will be like. If you like the first song, then you'll like the rest of it. He also puts a little humor on songs like "Hate your Guts" in which you will completely break down to tears of laugh In the Bonus CD, there is a great version of Black Sabbath's "The Wizard" (even though it could never be as good as Sabbath's) and a really cool version of "Come Together". Pride & Glory has had a big influence on my music style and the trio playing shows a lot of feeling on what they're doing, and that's what really matters. What would you choose....a someone who can play a thousand notes in a second without feeling, or someone who can give you three or four chords with all his enthusiasm? (Hey, Zakk can also play his extremely fast licks...this is not a 'three or four chords' album)!
Music Review: Flirtin' with perfection Rating: 5 Stars
Pride & glory is THE best album of the last two decades. No, seriously, who would have though there was still such great musicians willing to release such a powerful and inspired album without having to display their technic! Unlike satriani or Vai who just release clinical and almost only for pro's Cd's, Zakk proves he can go beyond that. This is about Fun, real guts, (hard)rock, a touch of country and a lot of emotion. ZAKK is a very honest musician, he is the most talented guitar player of his generation-not to mention his piano skills and rough vocals. Each song on this album is piece of art! This album smells:sweat, beer, country-side and sometimes tears. I believe that what makes it even better, is that Zakk doesn't have to prove anything to anybody, so he just plays and it feels good! In additon to all that magnificence, a bonus cd where Zakk and his friends cover some of the best bands. And again it is great-cheek out Zeppelin's Time Of Dying. Not to mention the amazing drum-work of Brian Tichi(did I spell it right?).Did you know that when this album came out, Zakk came to Brussels, he played for almost 2 hours in a local CD store and then went to the concert hall and played for 3 hours! Now that's what I call loving music! The PRIDE AND GLORY cd is clearly about loving music and caring about those who still believe ROCK RULES!
Music Review: ZAKK RULES Rating: 5 Stars
I recently got introduced to Zakk Wylde (Balck Label Society)by a very dear and close friend of mine, and I am ADDICTED... this man is a "metal god" if there is one...it is HE! *bowing* I listen to him and sit in awe...I thought music had died after the 70's and 80's then along came this magical musician that brings back that excitement and zeal into his music ... Lemme tell you all something else---this group knows how to play instruments THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING and not making a lot of noise...but making incredible music that goes with each of their masterpieces. Each piece of work is ARTfully done and gives me chills just listening to it. I found their best songs to me are SPOKE IN THE WHEEL, BORED TO TEARS, and BATCH OF LIES...but every tune they sing or even just the acoustics will get you hooked. This band isn't just another noisy band, NO they know how to make music and sing together and not drown out one or the other in the process. AHHHHHH listening to them as I write this review. YOU don't know what you are missing people if you haven't joined the club. GET IT NOW!!!! ZAKK YOU RULE thanks SS for introducing me to this magnificient group and bringing great music back into this gals life. ~ aka Brutal Dreamer
Music Review: Sothern Comfort & Southern-Rock Rating: 5 Stars
Ozzy's lead guitarist, Zakk Wylde, struck out on his own with his southern-rock project, Pride & Glory...aka...P.I.G. Brian Tichy, well-known session drummer, handled the skins & James Lomenzo, former White Lion & BLS bass player and current member of Megadeth, rounded out this band. But Zakk's larger than life and just about anything he touches, he makes his own.
This '99 re-issue features the original 14 tracks plus a 2nd disc of 5 bonus songs. The bonus songs include cover songs by Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin & The Beatles/Aerosmith. Plus 2 originals. The entire record's got an old-school feel to it thanks to the production work by Rick Parashar, who helmed the Temple of the Dog project.
Pride & Glory is metal meets southern-rock. This project got started while Zakk was on tour with Ozzy. On off days, he would perform southern-rock type songs under the moniker, Lynyrd Skinhead. This album's highlights include "Losin' Your Mind," "Horse Called War," "Machine-Gun Man," "Toe'N The Line" & the hilarious, "Hate Your Guts." Z.W. fans gotta go get this...now!
Music Review: One of my favourite albums of all time!!! Rating: 5 Stars
Zakk's really done it this time. If you ignore BLS (Black Label Society) and just picture the headlines. Zakk Wylde leaves Ozzy Osbourne Band Shocker. Then... much anticipated solo album out, under the name of Pride & Glory. You go out, buy the CD, plonk it in your CD player, and on comes Losin' your mind. "Hmmm... I hope its not like this all the way through...!" It is, and you know what? It leaves you wanting more of the same! Extended Jams Galore, and both amazing songs and musicianship! This album is like Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Black Sabbath meets Hendrix. The country music element is more than a hint, it's kind of the focus. Songs like Cry me a River, Machine Gun Man, and Shine On, kinda prove that. I can't see any other voice fitting this album so well, No other guitarist, No other bassist, and DEFINATELY no other drummer. Every song seems to be mixed by god, by leaving you feeling that you're in their garage at a band practice, while still being the kinda quality that could be released as a single! All round a top album!
