Music reviews of Audition

Music Review: POS is saving emcees' lives.
Rating: 5 Stars

I turned on this CD, and I was immeadietly inclined to turn it off. I heard a 19 second intro, of some string plucking of some sort and into a pretty tight beat. Then I heard some heavy metalness. With any other artist I'd have thought, "He's just trying to get popular through angsty punk obscurity." But it's POS, and I've heard Ipecac Neat and it was a "different" album I really loved. DO NOT be turned off by this first song, there are a few more like it on the CD-but none are as "extreme." If you know for a fact you're not gonna like it cause you can't handle a little metal guitar, and punk screaming in the background go to the next song. But I'd definetly suggest listening to the lyrics before passing judgement. In my opinion this album has the most hardcore feeling on the CD, and is one of my favorites. I specifically enjoy the line at the end when POS is talking to someone in the studio, "You like Fresca?...you're fired."

The next songs starts out with a bassline that any fan of hip-hop should enjoy. The top hat starts kickin, and POS starts rapping his life story, (at least in the beginning). The best part of this song is Greg Attonito's hook in the middle, "No one will ever be quite like me."

The next track Stand Up, is more about politics and various other issues, the song features some ill flows, and a bedlam of a beat. I'm neither here nor there on this song. I really like to hook, but sometimes the beat goes too loud over the words and I can't really decipher them, specifically in my car.Bush-League Psych-Out is one of my favorite tracks on the Cd. It begins with Slug badmouthing the entire DoomTree label. The beat is slow, and you RSE fans will love that it features Slug. Paul Kersey features the best beat on the CD, and very well may be the best song. The song starts off with "It's a cold-winter," and it only gets hotter from there. This is what the homies with the other reviews are talking about when they say POS sounds Eminem-like. This song is basically talking about people giving up, and how they completely have the right too. Peep this track if your not feeling any of the first tracks, because if you don't like the CD, then you probably thought D12 World was tight.

Safety In Speed starts off with a rant about how bad the movie Predator was. The beginnings funny, and from there, POS goes into how much heavy metal he can handle...I think? From this track to the so-called juggernaut of the CD "POS is Ruining My Life" the tracks get kind of mediocre. They're still pretty good. But nothing comparable to the previous tracks. POS is Ruining My Life isn't all it's cracked up to be. At points, as with a few other songs, the loud distorted guitar makes it kind of hard to hear the lyrics. However if you can get over that (I suggest noise cancelling head phones with no bass booster), the lyrics are ill. Definetly one of the best lyrical tracks on the CD. "Living Slightly Larger" is the next track, and not only is the beat ill but it also features one of the illest DoomTree artists Mike Mictlan. Definetly a song you need to check. Suicide Uma Schrutz is a 30 second songs about what kind of girl POS would like. Then Bleeding Hearts Club, another awesome track, with Slug, that features the "I like the way you brush your hair, I like the stylish clothes you wear..." sample. It's basically about being backstabbed by a girl. Sick track.

Teddy Bear and a Tazer is a sick song, that begins with my new favorite threat, "I'm gonna put tacks in your cereal...in two years." The best is very fast, and POS rides it like a pony. Truly flow at it's best. It's basically a song of contradictions to saying and ideals. The next song, "Audition Mantra finally has POS spitting over the beat on the intro, and it's nothing special pretty cool if you enjoy the beat, but the lyrics aren't great. However you should never skip the last song on a CD cause it's bad luck.

Basically POS is bringing a lot more to the game than your average hip-hopper, I think it's a good thing. But a lot of my hip-hop head friends can't listen to him cause he's too multi-genred. If your looking to try something new and enjoyed the last POS CD, check this one out. If you just like regular hip-hop, maybe you should check someone else out.
