Music Review: FOABP Leftovers

My review of FOABP on Amazon asked the question why that Album couldn't include more tracks when their EP Voyage 34 was roughly 4 minutes longer. Nil recurring has now left me more confused. Riverside's recent 2CD release of "Rapid eye movement" had re-mixed versions of "Behind the eyelids" and "Panic Room" alongside the original mixes. I enjoyed the Re-mixes much more. As has been mentioned, "Normal" is a continuation of "Sentimental". "Normal" for me, is by far the strongest track on the EP. It actually reminds me of the title Track (Fear of a Blank Planet, that is) especially the guitar tones in the intro. Fear of a Blank Planet had its highs and lows, and so does Nil Recurring. If Normal was a part of FOABP, I would have been more generous in my approach. That song is nearly up there with "Trains" as one of my all time favourite Tree tunes. As for the rest of the songs,well, it will always include top class musicianship and songwriting, but apart from Normal, I am not touching the repeat button the way I should. After 5 reviews, I see that 2 people have already complained about paying too much money for 4 songs and 28.47 mins of music with one reviewer venting anger directly at Steve Wilson. I wouldn't expect Steve being responsible for these actions, but I know he has a lot going at the moment with other projects (The just released Live Blackfield CD/DVD, the proposed Solo album in the future, and also further work with No Man). As a fan, I want value for my money be it a 60 minute Album or a 30 min EP. I would be happier paying the same price for a 30min CD that is 100% full of mindblowing music than a 60 minute CD that is crammed with fillers. "Normal" and "Cheating the Polygraph" should both have been included on FOABP. EPs and single CDs with unreleased bonus tracks will kill the CD for good. Finally, I have been advised by a mega in the know Tree friend of mine that there will be a FULL ALBUM version of Nil Recurring in the future. If thats true, I would expect a few disgruntled fans expressing their displeasure.
