Music Review: Great Early Poco Album

Poco's self-titled second album is a great example of what became known as country-rock. After the first album failed, the band decided to rock a bit harder, and the results are amazing. This and other early Poco CDs, along with the Allman Brothers Band's BROTHERS AND SISTERS, the Marshall Tucker Band's 70s albums, the music on the Outlaws anthology BEST OF THE OUTLAWS: GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES, and the Charlie Daniels Band's FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN, helped provide a template for the rock-influenced country plied by the financially-conservative, pro-law-enforcement artists whose attitudes about money are now inspiring me to be more careful. All of the aforementioned CDs/cassettes are worth getting to find the musical roots of virtually every country performer who praised the courage of the police officers who used deadly force to rescue two girls kidnapped in California in 2002, making it a great purchase if you share that viewpoint, if just to find out from where those artists learned their tricks.
