Music Review: Absolutley Insane for a B Sides Compilation to be This Good

If you want to tell if a band is good or truly great all you have to do is listen to their non album tracks. This B sides collection features more great songs than most bands' proper albums do.
Here are some of the highlights.
Into The White- Every time I hear this song it makes me want to get up and dance. Quite simply one of the greatest songs in the history of the Pixies. A surging drum beat, fat bassline, cryptic lyrics and Kim Deal's absolutely perfect voice make this one of my favorite Pixies songs ever.
River Euphrates- Reworking of a classic from Surfer Rosa and although I like that version slightly better it is great to hear this version which feels like a more fully developed song. It puts the focus more on the lyrics(you can actually understand them now) and features a different chorus and allows Joey room for a great solo at the end.
Dancing the Manta Ray- Ridiculously catchy song with some of the most unique lyrics Frank ever came up with.
Wave of Mutillation- Slowing the tempo down not only makes this doolittle classic one of the most beautiful songs you'll ever hear but it also gives the lyrics an added poignancy.
Manta Ray- this one has a classic Pixies Come on Pilgrim feel with all the pixies trademarks present. You get the start/stop dynamics, Kim on the chorus and the wonderfully cryptic lyrics by Frank.
While I can't really give this collection 5 stars I really wanted to. I decided against it because I think 5 stars should be reserved for the Pixies albums and this one does have a few instrumentals and other songs which are not all on the same high level. For any Pixies fan however Complete B Sides is a must own.
