Music reviews of ConfessionsMusic Review: Why so many low stars???
I can see why at first you would be disapointed with this cd. Once you find out Mike(Bass)is gone and then once you find out Lester(Drums) is gone then your really get disapointed because not many people can rock and groove better then Lester right!?? well this is a new era of Pillar, just like dc talk had the free at last, jesus freak, etc same goes for pillar. Many will argue that "Were Do We Go From Here" is the best era, which it might have been, even though Fireproof sold the most but that was before digital singles took off. This new cd has radio written all over it, because it was made that way. Rob Graves is the new producer who if you know "RED" that cd is radio friendly same here. The coolest part of this cd is the classical music attached to it. Now I hate classical music, but when you hear the song building up and then you hear a violin in the background it just makes it "shine" that much more. "Call to Action" is the biggest example of this. To bad Pillar didn't write this one it's a cover from Copper(old producer Travis Wyrick helped write it) but it doesn't matter cause pillar makes it there own. The song towards the end brings in the orchastra and makes the song go from a great to super. I will be the first to admit losing Lester made the cd sound different, but to be fair to Taylor the new drummer, he is great live, he makes each song his own, but on the cd most people don't read the liner notes because unfortunatly a studio drummer was brought in for this record. (my assumtion is finding a replacment was past the beggining of recording?) anyways it's average, if it wasn't for Rob's lyrics and passion and Noah's one of kind guitar section then the cd would have suffered. But my boy Rich on bass has an awesome grove himself and it's his first cd so you have to give him a break and he also is backup vocals live, and he sounds great with Rob. I loved "The Reckoning" were as most people hated it. Same will go for this record. Have an open mind and you will find that this is your favorite pillar cd. HANDS DOWN. And to top it off, they brought back the greatest band logo of all time, the record company wanted to get rid of it and us fans brought it back, with the help of Rob!! anyways yes this cd is different, but if it was the same as the last 3 cd's would you have bought it? When you watch a part 2 or 3 of a movie series you want it to have the same vibe of the 1st movie, yet different enough to be better then the last. Same goes for Pillar. They will always change, just like dc talk did, every cd was differnt, and this is no exceptions. Before you bash this, take a good listen from start to finish and if you don't like it, fair enough. But just cause there are 2 new members (which are great friendly guys I might add!!!) doesn't mean the cd sucks, it's just different. My only complaint is Taylor didn't play on the cd, cause I think what he would have brought would made each song better. I know this based on what I have seen him play live. So give it a try and have an open mind.
