Music Review: They Absolutely Had To Go There.........

Well, we received the CD today in the mail, and I must say, it is really much better than I thought.
You can tell it is PSB, although there is much less sexy, flowing keyboard influence and stuff like we're used to.
I think it's a really nice album to have, considering PSB have covered pretty much every genre of the pop music spectrum.
They had to do something different, which is fine by me.
"TMIT" is way different from PSB's other stuff, but then again, we have to agree with this, cos PSB has done countless albums of very similar material.
I really like "TMIT" because it goes where none other of PSB's albums have gone.
Of course, PSB's fans will complain about the lack of any lyrics in this material,....but then again, it's a ballet...and it's clearly not meant to be written as "sung" material.
The 2 discs are housed in a beautiful white, hard-cover digi-book, complete with liner notes and a sticker on the front wrapper.
The booklet contains 20 pages, from the first disc pocket, to the second.
If I were to play the CDs repeatedly, the discs would probably become worn a lot, because there really isn't much to protect them during sliding in and out of the digi-book. If the two discs were properly protected in a thin, cellophone-like film sleeve, they would last longer.
As I'm listening to the album, it really doesn't sound like something by PSB at all. But...it DOES sound REALLY good, and you SHOULD have this album in your PSB collection without a doubt. Hopefully PSB's next album will contain all new material, recorded in a studio, with full vocals & all, just like they did on the "YES" album. I still think the "YES" album is their best, but you should definitely have "TMIT" 2CD collection for your own. You definitely won't regret it.

"TMIT" is very different from the other PSB stuff, but it's really not bad. There are slight hints which will remind you it's still a PSB release, but most of the album is very slow and soft, and not very jubilant or majestic like PSB's other releases. I realize this is a ballet, but still, even as a ballet, it's not really a ballet, if you listen to the album from start to finish. It's a very unique and obviously important addition to your PSB music/CD collection.
Some parts of it are more funny, but not often. Most of the album is serious and very consistent, unlike PSB's other albums.
To be honest, I didn't expect anything majestic or huge & fanfare like the other albums........not in the least. I expected something much more quiet and reserved, considering this is a ballet. I hope you like it as much as I did, and I hope you will include this release (album) in your PSB music collection, because it really isn't so bad, and, at times, it really does sound like PSB, but not as you'd expect it.

Limited two CD release in special packaging. 2011 release from Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe (AKA Pet Shop Boys) , the music for their first ever full-length ballet, The Most Incredible Thing is a collaboration with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Britain's leading contemporary dance theatre, Sadler's Wells. Based on the Hans Christian Anderson story of the same title. Tennant and Lowe proposed Andersen's story as the basis for a new ballet to Sadler's Wells in London in 2007 after a friend, the then Royal Ballet principal, Ivan Putrov, asked Neil Tennant if Pet Shop Boys would consider writing a piece of music for him to dance to at Sadler's Wells. The story is about a competition in a mythical kingdom where the King announces that whoever invents the most incredible thing will win the hand of the Princess in marriage and half of the Kingdom.
