Music reviews of Lively MindMusic Review: Hating on Oaky again. Rating: 4 Stars
Let me make this straight this album actually hard deserves a 3 on me but I gave it a 4 because of some lazy people that don't know anything happening in the trance scene.
I will make this fast starting with the cons then the pros.
Cons-
1. Many tracks here are not related to the dance scene at all (Feed Your Mind, No Compromise, etc)
2. Some lyrics in some songs can make someone say 'wtf'
2a. Such as 'Faster Kill Pussycat' now Brittany Murphy has vocals I give her that but I live in America and I enjoy all kind of music from trance to rap and hearing 'You Turn Me On' 10 times in a song is not my cup of tea.
2b. Also the 'Feed Your Mind' song, well all I got to say about that song is that its truly a waste of space and shouldn't have been in the album.
3. Some songs that featured some artist isn't that good.
3a. 'Sex 'N' Money', Oaky probably didn't heard the song 'Beautiful' with Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, so Oaky probably didn't knew that he could have made a song that would have appealed to the hip-hop/r&B community and the song would be responsible for probably some cool projects. but instead he made a very nice beat and told a superstar like Pharrell to sing 6 words in the whole song, IMHO he should have gotten some other guy to sing it and make a whole different song with Pharrell because I enjoy 'Sex N Money' but Pharrell was useless talent for the song.
3b. 'Set It Off' I love the beat but damn Grandmaster Flash could have said something else again a waste of good talent.
4. Vulnerable has the same beat as a remix featured in the album 'The Club' and all they say is you leave me so vulnerable and blah blah. This is a big no-no.
5. Now I don't know about U.K. rock but this sure isn't American rock (Feed Your Mind, No Compromise, etc)
Now with the good
Pros-
1. Because of how catchy this might be 'Faster Kill Pussycat' may appeal to a lot of dance fanatics out there and this may open some dance fans to explore the trance side which is of course a positive thing.
2. 'Save The Last Trance For Me' is what really makes this album reach 3 stars for me because its mixable and it has the trance side into it and enjoyble to listen so thumbs for this one.
3. 'Praise The Lord' as soon as I listened to this one I just fell in love with it, shows that Oakenfold still knows how to make songs that should be in albums. This song imo is hard to mix so you won't be hearing this song in clubs but its a great listen when listening to albums. This may end up in some mix cds u make for friends. Just a great listen and I love it I just wish he made a remix for the club that would extend the song and make it great for a club song.
4. Ryan Tedder (or w/e his name is) this guy is the actual star in this whole album this guy has really nice vocals. Oakenfold picked a guy unknown to me and now I am very interested in hearing some of his orignal music, so not only does he open ears to discover the trance world but he also opens ears to discover other music such as right now, I am very interested in Ryan Tedder music.
5. 'Amsterdam' this is the only song that Oakenfold has made for the album and has truly played it. I like that song even though its not that original is something that I still like the only complain about this song is that in the beginning the bass is TOO LOUD. // Other song 'Switch On' is like 'Rdy Stdy Go Part 2'//
So overall I can understand someone giving this 2 stars and I would barely give this 3 stars if it wasn't for that 'Save The Last Trance..' but I gave it 4 stars because I am sure most of you guys were to lazy to do research about Oakenfold releases and just went straight to buy this CD.
He did said that most songs in the album will still be out of the dance scene related. He also said that he will make a album with the club feeling on it which he did failed to succeed but he still complete part of his promise by songs like (Amsterdam, Faster Kill Pussycat, Sex N Money, etc)
But if you guys wanted to have the club feeling you guys should have bought THE CLUB SAMPLER!!! I bet most of you guys don't know what that is; he release the club sampler before he released this album and it contains interesting remixes from songs like 'Faster Killpussycat', 'Feed Your Mind', etc.
If you guys knew about the Club Sampler then you guys would have known that songs like this would have been in the album because he already released the sampler to this album; this is the reason I give this 4 stars because some of you guys rated this to a 1.
Also I can't see this album being a five in some eyes that has actually heard Oakenfold over the years.
Real verdict : 2.8 out of 5.0 Dissapointing with the featured guest, some lyrics that didnt appeal to me what-so-ever, beats were recycled, only worth listening to a couple of songs so I actually recommend downloading from ITunes than buying the whole album.

Description of Lively MindA Lively Mind, the second artist album from Paul Oakenfold?perhaps the most important figure in modern club culture?is a passionate, up-tempo, electronic adventure. Continuing a tradition of employing unique vocalists, Oakenfold enlisted actress Brittany Murphy (8 Mile, Sin City) for lead track "Faster Kill Pussycat" plus modern hip-hop great Pharrell Williams, hip-hop living legend Grandmaster Flash and others. But it is Oakenfold?s dance/crossover genius at the heart of A Lively Mind.
