Music Reviews of Memory Almost Full [Deluxe Limited Edition]

Music Review: Vintage Paul- Memory Almost Full (Deluxe Version)
Rating: 4 Stars

This is a good album. Paul seems to be branching out with his arrangements and creating new background sounds. You'll hear mandolins, bells, buzzing guitars and even some backwards sounding violins in one of the songs. The harmony is also tighter-sort of what you might expect to find on an album by the "Fab Four". "The End of The End" is rather scarey as Paul is talking about his death! (Why would he even want to think about it? Is he seeing himself as "over the hill"?)
Now for the negative aspect of the "Deluxe Version". The packaging (in my opinion) is horrible. Inside the so called "Deluxe Edition",one cd lies half way on top of the second cd. On my copy,it was very hard to pull the top cd off of the custom tray.(I had to practically bend the cd in order to get it off.) The package has a bunch of fold out parts with no booklet. The lyrics are on back of a sheet of pictures.Also-the bonus tracks seem like "throw away" tracks. They are not very good. The interview is just plain boreing too. My advice is for people to buy the regular version. The Limited Edition version doesn't really offer anything worth shelling out the extra $ for.

Music Review: I love this new CD from Paul McCartney
Rating: 5 Stars

I love this new CD from Paul McCartney. My favorite track is "Dance Tonight". This song puts me a good mood It really makes me want to dance. I really like Paul's mandolin playing on this track. "Gratitude" is a sweet song about being in love with someone and being grateful for their love. The piano playing on House Of Wax is very good. It gives this track a dark tone. "Ever Present Past" is an upbeat track. This song is about Paul's recollections about being a young struggling musician. "End of The End" is a song about the end of Paul's life. This is a sad and spiritual tune. The message of this song is that death is just a normal part of life, and it should not be feared. "Feet In The Clouds" is a clever play on words. This is a great tune about feeling out of sorts. "See Your Sunshine" is a pretty song. It is a reminder that everyone has individual gifts and talents. "Vintage Clothes" is a neat song about holding on to the past. I like the organ playing and whistling on this track very much. "Nod Your Head" is a song that picks up the pace and really rocks. This is a very entertaining new CD from Paul McCartney.

Music Review: Better Than "Chaos" but not a great Macca effort
Rating: 3 Stars

The days of excellent McCartney tunes are long past. I love "Junior's Farm" and "Venus and Mars." I think the album "Flowers in the Dirt" was Paul's best effort in the past 20 years. "Memory Almost Full" is full of reminiscence and reflection. Not all of it is interesting or fun to listen to.
Tops in my opinion are "Mr. Bellamy" (an "Uncle Albert" cousin) and the "End of the End" with some great imagery in the lyrics. I also enjoy the guitar work on "House of Wax." "Only Mama Knows" starts quietly with strings and then rocks out. It's good to hear Macca can still rock and roll.
Disappointments include the weak opener "Dance Tonight." Why does Paul insist on playing the mandolin, as he did on his last live tour in tribute to his former bandmate George? "Feet in the Clouds" sounds like a Jeff Lynne production. "See Your Sunshine" is light and inconsequential. On "Vintage Clothes" Paul sings "Check the rack/What was out is coming back." I wish Paul's songwriting prowess of the Beatles' or Wings' era was coming back, but maybe that's not realistic in the twilight of his career. MAF is nothing great and nothing terrible.

Music Review: In my rotation
Rating: 4 Stars

Flaming Pie and Chaos & Creation were fine CDs, but they never became CDs that I listened to regularly. However, Memory Almost Full makes the cut. The best song is easily See Your Sunshine...I can't stop listening to it! My other highlights are: Ever Present Past, Only Mama Knows, Vintage Clothes, House of Wax (why are people bashing this song?), End of the End, and Nod Your Head.
House of Wax features what I would say is Paul's most passionate singing of the past 20 (or more?) years. And overall I hear more passion (and more varied tempos, thank God!) than Chaos and Creation. This is a CD that you can listen to from start to finish.
I'd also like to say that reviewers who review the CD by getting into Paul's personal relations with Linda and Heather, his drug use, and general personal issues are totally wack. REVIEW THE MUSIC! How can you speculate on things you don't know anything about! It's a shame.
My father raised me on Paul McCartney-- Beatles, Wings, everything. I'm glad that I'm still able to share Paul's new music with him.
Thank you Paul for sharing your talents with us.

Music Review: In my memory for a while, full or not !!!
Rating: 5 Stars

Let's start with the deluxe package. I took it because it was only 3$ more. I think it is worth it if you don't have to pay much more, except if you're a real fan. It is a "DVD-style" packaging with nice pictures and a short extra CD with an interview and 3 extra tracks.

This album is very different from "Chaos and Creation in the backyard". I would say it is more joyful, entertaining and accessible. I had to listen to "Chaos" and "Driving Rain" a couple of times to appreciate the material. I enjoyed "Memory Almost Full" on the first listen, it is innovative and it sounds fresh in McCartney's style.

Again, Paul plays a various set of instruments and his vocal performance is awesome (including back vocals and incredible whistling !). From the very simple "Dance Tonight" to the rocky "Only Mama Knows" and the touching "Ever Present Past" or the melancholic "You Tell Me", I was once more surprised by McCartney's talentful songwriting.

This album sounds great and keeps McCartney within my favorites. The songs are very-well mixed and varied. Hope to see him again on tour !
