Music Review: A pleasant selection but not exceptional!

Any individual who has heard a reasonable amount of Paul Mauriat's orchestral music will tell you that this is a good selection but certainly not the best that one could possess from his vast repertoire of music. I feel that the title -"The Definitive Collection" is just a little bit on the ambitious side. "The Collection" would have sufficed just as well.
This cd, being another of Japan's imports, is immaculately packaged & well-presented. I still haven't figured out why Paul Mauriat's photograph is placed horizontally, instead of vertically, on the front cd cover!
It is meant for relaxing whilst reading, or as soft, background music whilst working or entertaining friends/family. The downside is that after a little while of listening pleasure, the tracks begin to sound slightly drab & boring. As to the audio quality, the sound is clear but lacks depth. I would hesitate to blast this selection out loud.
I like this collection but it is not the best of Paul Mauriat's instrumental music that one could own.
