Music Review: Patti sold her songs without even trying--she was and still remains THAT good !!!

This Patti Page two-fer CD has all the songs from two of Patti's record albums entitled Sings You Go To My Head and Manhattan Tower. The quality of the sound is impressive and the cover artwork is very nicely done. The liner notes have a good essay by Alan Eichler and the pictures of Patti in the liner notes are very well done, too.
The CD opens with Patti doing her usual incredible interpretation of "You Go To My Head." "You Go To My Head" has a lovely background chorus--not that Patti Page could ever need it; but that was the style at the time. Patti's excellent diction bolsters her performance as well; and that's awesome. "I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart" has Patti Page squarely front and center--right where she always belonged! Patti's voice never sounded better and that's fine with me! The brass is also used to great advantage on "I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart." "Deep In A Dream" has Patti putting her own stamp on this classic pop song; she uses her singular knack for timing to make this shine bright. "I Thought About You" has Patti singing in a most romantic tone of voice; and the piano arrangement is very elegant. "I Thought About You" is clearly a major highlight of this CD. "Darn That Dream" has a lush musical arrangement; and I really like "What's New" with that orchestral-type musical accompaniment for Patti's vocals. In addition, "I'll Never Smile Again" has a stunning musical opening and when Patti comes in this number unfolds to become an exquisite ballad just like the petals of a beautiful flower opening up in the morning to drink in the sun's rays. "I've Got It Bad And That Ain't Good" is a bonus pop classic from an extended play 45rpm record entitled Patti Sings The Duke; when Patti Page sings this she infuses it with such a new type of energy it truly sounds fresh and very new. "Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me" is also a bonus track from Patti Sings The Duke; and she delivers this one again without a hitch. Listen also for another bonus song entitled "Under A Blanket Of Blue." "Under A Blanket Of Blue" charms me with its beauty and it's an excellent highlight of this album.
But there's more--we also get the songs from Manhattan Tower. "New York's My Home" has a fine musical arrangement to highlight the rhythm of that very big city and Patti sings this with a fine chorus in the background. "Learnin' My Latin" is a fun number that Patti aces seemingly effortlessly; and I also enjoy Patti singing "Happiness Cocktail" with those awesome strings. "Never Leave Me" is a passionate love song that Patti sings with all her heart and soul--you can just tell when you hear her sing it. "Repeat After Me" has a fantastic arrangement and Patti makes this another huge highlight of this two-fer CD. "Repeat After Me" is one of the most beautiful Patti Page songs I've ever heard. "This Close To The Dawn" has another beat to suggest the fast pace of New York City; and it works very well especially with Patti Page in the spotlight! The CD ends strong with the great Patti Page performing "The Party;" "The Party" has yet another fine arrangement and Patti never sings a superfluous note.
What can I say? Patti Page was and remains the best. She'll always be the cream of the crop and albums like this one prove it. This not only gives us all the songs from You Go To My Head and Manhattan Tower, we also get a few bonus tracks from Patti Sings The Duke which were never before released on CD. I highly recommend this for Patti Page fans; and people who enjoy albums with classic pop vocals will want this for their collections.
