Music Review: My Favorite Pat Metheny Record and one of my favorite Jazz Records

I have owned this record for about 10 years now and it is STILL getting better and better.
I am a 31 year old Jazz guitarist. I enjoy it all, from contemporary smooth jazz to vintage chord melody to gypsy to bebop, I love it all.
My favorite artists include GEORGE BENSON, JOHNNY SMITH, NORMAN BROWN, PAT METHENY, WES MONTGOMERY, CHARLIE CHRISTIAN, BARNEY KESSEL, JOE PASS, TAL FARLOW, etc. - The list goes on and on.
If I had to choose four, Benson and Metheny would be in there, as well as Norman Brown and Johnny Smith.
As for George Benson, Breezin' is my favorite record - NOT because of the reason that most people love it (masquerade, breezin', etc), but because of the other wonderful songs that don't get the same attention.
My whole point of what you just read is to give some background on what I like, for you to see if this review holds any water with you, or contains ANY kind of merit.
I tend to like the songs and records that the masses don't like. NO, I don't do this out of practice and I am not trying to be different, but I have always found that the material I naturally gravitate to winds up being underrated tossed aside by majority.
WE LIVE HERE is a record with material that is VERY accessible, yet there is still a technical element.
When it comes to Pat Metheny, I LOVE his guitar tone. I am referring to his 'electric' guitar tone.
I once read a quote about an all acoustic Metheny album where the reviewer stated that it would be the perfect marriage for Metheny fans.
I DISAGREE. I have no interest in hearing Pat Metheny (or any other players for that matter) play an 'acoustic' record.
Of course I am referring to my dislike for actual ACOUSTIC guitar with BRONZE strings - Yuck. When I think of Jazz guitar, I think of the city, not some stinky country, rolling meadows and hayseeds.
Nothing wrong with it, but it's not for me...and I don't think it fits well in jazz, sorry, but I think bronze strings and soundholes should stay with folk, rock, pop, and country.
I want to hear these guys play Archtop guitars through amps...period.
Sure, this record has it's share of guitar synth, but that's a big part of Pat's playing. Even more important to me, it features a boat-load of his ibanez clean tone, which is top notch, simple, and extremely satisfying for my ears.
The songwriting is wonderful. The songs are very catchy, but as I said, they retain a technical element which should satisfy the fans who love to see him rip.
If my review resembles your tastes, go for this record and GIVE IT SOME TIME, as it takes a bit to grow on you. That's the best in my book, that way you won't get burned out on it fast.
If my review is the opposite of your tastes, I would STILL check it out.
