Music Review: Good 'serious' jazz

Every so often, Pat Metheny gets together with a jazzy rhythm section to make a good trio disc. "Day Trip" was 2008's trio disc, and "Question And Answer" is 1990's. With Dave Holland on bass and Roy Haynes on drums, Metheny plays it straight jazz. The disc starts with a slight hiccup -- this version of "Solar" doesn't seem to go anywhere for me. Metheny recovers with the rest of the disc, and takes nice melodies out for a spin or a shaking around. The pace varies some, but Metheny keeps his guitar tone set to "classic jazz guitar.". Dave Holland is naturally very good, and this disc is credited with reinvigorating Roy Haynes' career. I recommend this CD to any fans of Pat Metheny's 'serious' jazz output.
