Music Review: Ignore the few poor ratings

If you read a couple good reviews but ALWAYS look at the bad ones to see what they have to say then these bad reviews will mis-lead you. It is true that John's comedy heavily revolves around his weight and for the most part defines his brand of humor. But he does it with an art and skill that makes you laugh with him not at him. One reviewer said I guess if you're fat you might find him funny. I've never been and never will be heavy but I think he's one of the funniest comedians in the industry, and he has been for some time. It's not about him being fat that is supposed to be funny. It is his observations on things and his "experiences" that he draws his comedy from. He can construct a joke with the best of them and doesn't have to use foul language or gross humor to make you cry laughing. You write about what you know and John certainly has a lot of material to work with. The more you listen to John's comedy the more you appreciate his attention to detail and the time it must take to perfect the concept of each joke. I can appreciate all kinds of humor but this CD gets the most play in my house. More than Seinfeld, Carlin, Pryor and many of the other great comedians. If you need an opinion from someone you think is funny try the fact that John was in the last episode of Seinfeld. Comedians who respect other comedians do things like this. This is by far John's best work and it should be because he's been doing standup since the early 80's and it took him about 16 years or so to get the material to a point where he finally decided it was good enough to warrant a CD. In the day and age when any schmuck comedian is outside selling his CD's after the show it's nice to see someone take that care. George Carlin said the more I do it the better I get and he was right up until about 8 years ago when he did his absolute best work. That CD gets played less than this one.
