Music Review: Surely One of the Finest Chant Albums

I'm by no means an expert on Gregorian Chant, having listened to just a very few such releases in my lifetime. But I like to think I'm a decent connoisseur of both classical and rock music, actually, and for that matter.
Listening to this CD primarily hoping it would be one of the very few I find truly great and relaxing for my Reiki clients (if I get any; I have none as of the date of this review), I was not disappointed. This must be one of the finest chant recordings ever released.
Ahead of listening to this CD, I had thought the greatest features of Gregorian chant were if there were drone voices frequently utilized, and if there was true polyphony incorporated in the melody line or lines. And it's true this release has only the former and not the latter of these two desired characteristics of mine.
But what this release has revealed to me, is that it's pre-standardized Gregorian Roman chant, and is instead Old Roman Chant. From the most basic listener's perspective, what this means is that it involves microtonality in the singing (like classical Indian music in that broad sense, or more to the point, per the liner notes, like Eastern Orthodox Christian chant, apparently).
So now I must say that for any Chant release to receive my blessing (or five stars from me, anyway), it must have any two of the following three musical qualities: (1) heavy and admirable use of drone voices (I know that's not the correct term but it's all I know to come up with), (2) true polyphony, and/or (3) microtonal singing.
And this CD has 2 of my 3 Chant characteristics, so it gets 5 stars, and I hope you will consider buying it!
