Music Review: A Metamorphosis Intensified

I love this. It is intense in all the good ways that Skinny Puppy was. In addition, it has a sort of 80's electronic-esque thing that is woven in. Melodic and hard edged without being cheesy, and - would you belive it - very danceable!!! this is great! OhGr, where have you been? I had heard about this project previously as well....finally it is out. It wasn't what i was expecting, but that is good. In a way it sounds very modern, yet surpasses the "industrail and electronic" acts of today. It is in some ways simpler than the dense and demanding layered sound of Skinny Puppy--it is actually more electronic than industrial. That could be considered bad to some i suppose, but this new arrangement of sound seems to lend itself not only to Ogre's voice but also to the understanding of the lyrics. As a warning, some industrial purists will not like this. In fact, most poeple that i have talked to have not been sure what to think of this. My recomendation would be to listen to the album first if possible, before buying the album. If you haven't heard it at all yet, I am sure you will be surprised. Or-even better-see him while on tour! I saw them this last Tuesday in Portland Oregon, and it was really great. (Cevin Key was there too). Masks with lights inside, twitching, and everything. The crowd was clawing for him, just trying to touch him, like a religious idol, though he mostly dodged their grasping hands. And although slightly revolted by the crowd, i couldn't help but wonder what it would be like for him. Makes me feel a *little* less bad that i was too young to see SP when they were still around.
