Music Review: If I'd have known
Rating: 1 Stars

I want my money back. If I had listened to this as my first exposure to Neil, I would never have bought another one of his albums. He comes across as a complete moron whenever he talks to the audience. Too much pot, Mr. Young. And the musicianship he demonstrates is completely substandard. He doesn't even seem to be strumming chords half the tme, just swiping open strings. Then a listener is further insulted by getting a second, ENHANCED CD of this lousy musicianship.

What was Neil thinking? The man who who released Everybody Know this is Nowhere, Tonight's the Night, Ragged Glory, Comes a Time, Harvest Moon, Freedom, etc., all works of genius... inflicts this dump truck on his loyal fans.

For shame, Mr. Young! You sound like a no-talent moron on this album.

Music Review: Sugar Mountain
Rating: 5 Stars

Just bought the CD. The show is great, great sound, and funny banter between the songs. A previous reviewer mentioned a lot of tape hiss. While there is a certain "warmth" to the recording, it is in no way a distraction. Honestly, it is barely audible. The DVD is a disappointment, I have to admit. I was expecting some concert footage, and after hearing the between song banter (especially when Neil talks about working at a bookstore and being hopped up on pills) really wish I could see his face as he talks to the audience. However, the DVD does have an extended preview for the archives, which you can't help but be excited about, even if you are upset about the price/format issue. Anyways, this is a great CD, and worth the dough. I would go so far as to say it is essential.

Music Review: Snapshot of a legend
Rating: 5 Stars

This is a rare recording of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. The mood at Canterbury House is personal and intimate. Musically, this is a chance to hear the master early in his career; his guitar sounds fantastic and his voice is clear and crisp. I'm from the Detroit/Ann Arbor area so it's extra special to me (Neil recalls writing "The Old Laughing Lady" on a napkin "in true folk tradition" while at the White Tower restaurant in Detroit; he also shares his "Detroit experience" in the wee hours after leaving the restaurant). As other reviews have noted, if you are a long time Neil Young fan, this is a must have. If you don't know his music, this is a must have so you can be introduced to the musical genius that many have loved for so many years.

Music Review: DVD is not true DVD-A but DVD Video with 24/96 res. audio
Rating: 4 Stars

As other reviewers have pointed out, the DVD in this package is not a concert film. It is a high resolution version of the audio on the CD. It is not, however, true DVD-A. To playback DVD-A, you need a special decoder in your player. Luckily, this DVD is in the DVD Video format which means that anyone with a standard DVD player can hear the high resolution sound. Go to the "Set Up" menu on the DVD, it will explain the technical aspects of the format. This is not hype! Even a casual comparison between the audio on the CD and DVD will reveal how much more life and music there is in the DVD version. So don't throw a tantrum and break the DVD across your knee. Listen to the disc. If you already like the music here, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Music Review: Are You Feeling Ripped-Off About the DVD in "Sugar Mountain"?
Rating: 4 Stars

Great audio CD!
But......weren't you expecting what I was -- a video version of the audio track?
Or at least some video tracks that relate to the audio?

No - I feel we were RIPPED-OFF by the label.
The DVD is no more than a captive infomercial for the upcoming boxed set (a good infomercial, it must be said at that).

COME ON, REPRISE RECORDS, GIVE US DISAPPOINTED DUPES SOMETHING TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS DVD LET-DOWN!
Something like a REBATE on the cost "Sugar Mountain".
Or a JUICY DISCOUNT that can be applied against the cost of the boxed set.

IT'S TIME TO SHOW SOME GOODWILL TOWARDS YOUR CUSTOMERS!

FELLOW CUSTOMERS.........IF YOU AGREE, LET REPRISE RECORDS KNOW!!
