Music Review: Funky Jazz At It's Best

I can't believe I stayed away from this gem for so long because somone derided it as being too commericial when I was young. Fear not - this is great jazz and most fans of small combo jazz from the 1950's and 1960's will treasure it. The idea of Sam Jones picking the cello is way cool. Nat's cornet work and improvisations make me wonder why he is not more highly regarded. Wes Montgomery on guitar is a master of his instrument. And Bobby Timmons on piano adds some wonderful swinging solos and perfect fills. Percy Heath's Bass and Louis Hayes on drums are ideal here. This is highly recommended, very engaging and infectious.
